Emma joined City of Leeds Diving Club in 1993; she came from Harrogate Diving Club.  Emma qualified for the Junior Great Britain Team diving in Aachen, Germany at the Junior Europeans then qualifying for the Junior Worlds in the Czech Republic. Emma qualified for the Senior British Grand Prix in 2000 diving on the 1 meter board in Sheffield and synchronised diving on the 3 meter springboard with her teammate Rebecca Burrows where they scored an incredible place of 5^th  just 0.30 points behind the top Senior British Women's pair.
